TIRUNELVELI: The condition of Tirunelveli MP R. Dhanushkodi Adithan, who was seriously injured in a road accident near Tuticorin on Saturday, is reported to be "critical." Doctors attending Mr. Adithan, who suffered multiple fractures below the hip and left hand in the mishap, said his blood pressure was "unsatisfactory" and that internal bleeding was detected. "Though urine output was nil for about eight hours after the accident, urine started separating this morning, which is a positive sign. Only when the BP improves, we can go for surgery. Otherwise the surgery itself would be an additional stress on him. Since internal haemorrhage was detected, more blood is being given," renowned orthopaedic surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Madurai, M. Muthuvel Rajan, who was rushed to Tuticorin with his team, told The Hindu .
Early surgery
Moreover, another team of doctors from Madurai reached Tuticorin on Sunday night to decide on the possibilities of going for an early surgery to arrest bleeding. Meanwhile, Union Minister for Statistics and Project Implementation G.K. Vasan, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Krishnaswamy, and leader of Congress Legislature party D. Sudharsanam visited Mr. Adithan, who is admitted to the intensive care unit of AVM Hospital, on Sunday. Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Vasan said he had informed All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi about the incident and Mr. Adithan's condition. An all-faith prayer meeting was organised at Tuticorin by Nanguneri MLA H. Vasanthakumar for the speedy recovery of Mr. Adithan. The body of Indra Devi Adithan, who was killed in the mishap, was buried in a piece of land behind the residence of Mr. Adithan at Palayamkottai on Sunday evening. Apart from Mr. Vasan, Mr. Krishnaswamy and Mr. Sudharsanam, Tiruchendur MP V. Radhika Selvi, MLAs Vasanthakumar, P. Veldurai, Rani Venkatesan, M. Appavu, Vidiyal Sekar, V. Karuppasamy Pandian, former MPs and MLAs and heads of various Central Government Departments paid their last respects to the departed soul.
