Annamalai University, Lady Doak College win

TIRUCHI: Annamalai University (Chidambaram) won all its semifinal league matches to clinch the State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament for the A.S. Lingaiyan Chettiar memorial rolling trophy for men here on Saturday. St. Joseph's College (Tiruchi) finished second.

Lady Doak College (Madurai), with an all win record in the semifinal league, won the Founder Rajamani Ammal memorial rolling trophy for women. Theivannai Ammal College (Villupuram) took the second place.

The results: Semifinal league: Men: Annamalai University bt Sethu Engineering College 25-18, 25-14, 25-20; St. Joseph's College bt Sacred Hearts College 13-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-27, 15-13; Annamalai University bt Sacred Hearts College 25-19, 25-20, 25-16; St. Joseph's College bt Sethu Engineering College 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20; Annamalai University bt St. Joseph's College 25-20, 19-25, 25-16, 25-15; Sethu Engineering College bt Sacred Hearts College 13-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-17.

All-round show

An all-round performance by Sharath (54 and three for 13) helped Rajalakshmi Engineering College score a 37 run win over Easwari Engineering College in the Anna University inter-zonal cricket tournament here on Sunday.

The scores: quarterfinals: Sona Engineering College 107 in 29.4 overs lost to Sethu Engineering College 108 for two in 19.3 overs (Bhagyaraj 46 not out, Umar Khatof 40 not out). Rajalakshmi Engineering College 179 for nine in 30 overs (Sharath 54, Saravanan 47) bt Easwari Engineering College 142 in 27.1 overs (Sharath three for 13).

In joint lead

Host St. Joseph's College (Tiruchi) defeated Kongu Arts College (Karur) 26-13 in a semifinal league match and is in joint lead with Loyola College (Chennai) at six points in kabaddi at the South India level inter-collegiate centenary tournaments here on Sunday.

The results (semifinal league): Loyola College bt National College (Tiruchi) 67-18; St. Joseph's College bt National College 62-8; Loyola College bt Kongu Arts College (Karur) 30-18.

Double for Babu

At Pudukottai, S. Babu of TELC HSS (Pudukottai) won the 100m and 200m title at the Monthly Competition (athletics) conducted by the Pudukottai unit of SDAT.

The results: (all winners): Boys: Athletics: 400m: P. Kumar (Government BHSS, Keeranur); 800m: P. Kumar; long jump: J. Lumen (St. Mary's HS, Pudukottai); high jump: S. Ramesh Kumar (TELC HSS); shot put: V. Dinesh (St. Mary's HS).

Girls: 100m: S. Jonsy Priya (Government HS, Sembattur); 200m: S. Renuka (Government GHS, Thirukogarnam); 400m: 1. S.P.B. Poorvika (Government HS, Sembattur); 800m: S.P.B. Poorvika; long jump: A. Divya Sadana (Ranees HSS, Pudukottai); high jump: Sajitha (Ranees HSS); shot put: C. Illangiem (Government GHSS, Keeranur).
