`The Government has failed to resume the programme'

  • The Government had promised to resume the programme from this academic year
  • The Mahithi Sindhu programme was launched in 2001 by the S.M. Krishna Government

MYSORE: Protesting against the State Government's failure to resume the Mahithi Sindhu computer education programme for students of government high schools in the State, the Mahithi Sindhu teachers in Mysore district are planning to take out a march here on Monday.

Addressing a press conference, vice-president of the Mysore District Government High School Mahithi Sindhu Computer Teachers' Association Jagadish C.L. said the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government had promised to resume the programme by retaining the same computer education teachers from this academic year.

Though more than two months had lapsed since the academic year began, the programme had not been revived and the services of the computer education teachers had not been utilised, he said.

The S.M. Krishna Government had launched the Mahithi Sindhu programme in 2001 with the objective of imparting computer education to students of government high schools across the State. During the five-year project, lakhs of high school students across the State were equipped with computer skills. When the programme's term ended in November 2005, the teachers staged an agitation seeking resumption of the programme and their retention in service. All the Mahithi Sindhu computer teachers of Mysore district will gather at the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) at Vasanth Mahal here on Monday. They will take out a march and reach the Deputy Commissioner's office via K.R. Circle and D. Devaraj Urs Road before submitting a memorandum to the Government.
