10 relief camps set up in Guntur district

2,400 persons evacuated from low-lying areas


  • Rice, food packets distributed among the affected persons

    GUNTUR: The Guntur district administration has set up ten flood relief camps in the affected mandals where 2,400 persons from 587 families were accommodated. They were evacuated from their houses in low-lying areas along the Krishna river.

    The ten flood-affected mandals are: Repalle, Bhattiprolu, Kollur, Kollipara, Duggirala, Tadepalli, Thulluru, Amaravathi, Bellamkonda and Atchampat. In Atchampet mandal, 105 boats were reported missing and officials began assessing the actual loss. Relief workers distributed 58.70 quintals of rice and supplied 4,800 food packets to the affected persons.

    Damage assessment

    The Agriculture Department is assessing the damage to the cotton crop that was inundated by the floodwaters in Amaravathi and Bellamkonda mandals. Damage to the horticulture crops like turmeric, yam and banana was reported from Kolluru, Thulluru and Bhattiprolu mandals.

    Two persons were washed away in the floodwaters on Saturday. The victims were identified as Ontipuli Subba Rao of Chamarru village in Atchampet mandal and Yelavarthi Ananda Rao of Chintamotu village in Bhattiprolu mandal.

    Boats in service

    There was no information on the number of houses damaged from any of the mandals. The administration positioned ten boats in Repalle, Bhattiprolu, Kolluru, Thulluru and Amaravathi mandals. A control room was set up in the district to monitor the situation.
