SAN DIEGO : Second-seeded Maria Sharapova used her strong serve to defeat Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-4 and advance to the final of the Acura Classic here on Saturday.

The Russian will meet top-seeded Kim Clijsters who beat Czech teenager Nicole Vaidisova 6-2, 7-6(0) in the other semifinal.
