CAIT to observe Aug. 9 as "Traders' Day''

NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), an apex body of traders in the country, has decided to observe August 9 as "Traders' Day'' every year. A decision to this effect was taken at the two-day national conference of traders' here in the Capital recently.

CAIT has sent a communication to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that the Government officially declare August 9 at Traders' Day. On that day, traders across the country will unfurl the Traders' Flag and will also release their national charter of "Sampurn Vypar Swarajaya''.

CBSE announces compartment results

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results of the all-India and Delhi senior school examination compartment results for 2006. Schools under the Delhi region have been advised to collect the results from their respective Deputy Director of Education after 2 p.m. on Monday. Private and Patrachar Vidyalaya candidirates have been advised to collect their results from their examination centres and Patrachar Vidyalayas respectively. The result will also be available on the website: www.cbse.nic.in or www.cbseresults.nic.in

DU Forum facilitates V.P. Singh

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University Forum for Social Justice on Sunday facilitated former Prime Minister V. P. Singh on completion of 15 years of the Mandal Commission report. A delegation of teachers, employees and students met Mr. Singh at his residence here and hailed Mr. Singh's role in the social upliftment of backward and oppressed classes of society. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh said a lot more needs to be done to bring SC, ST and OBCs into the national mainstream. He also demanded immediate increase in quota in technical and higher education. On the occasion, the Forum extended support to Mr. Singh's struggle in support of farmers of Dadri in Uttar Pradesh where a mega power plant is proposed.

Water supply to be affected

NEW DELHI: Due to major repair work at Jal Vihar and Greater Kailash main pipelines, water supply will remain affected in many East, Central, South Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council areas on August 7 and 8. Areas that will remain affected include Mayur Vihar I and II, Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, Preet Vihar, IP Extension, Patparganj, Ganesh Nagar, CGO Complex, Nizamuddin, Lajpat Nagar, Jor Bagh, South Extension, Defence Colony, Greater Kailash, Okhla, Kalkaji, and Panchsheel Park.
