`Hoarders need not declare stocks due to Essential Commodities Act'

  • Admits that price of most pulses have gone up
  • Officials asked to sanction houses for those who lost homes in floods

VIZIANAGARAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said that efforts were on to amend the Essential Commodities (revised) Act 2002 to check price rise. At a press conference here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that the Act had provided an excuse for hoarders from declaring stocks and displaying prices on boards. He admitted that the prices of pulses, except red gram, have gone up and added that an amendment to the Act would help control prices.

Expressing concern over raising water level in Godavari, Dr. Reddy said that all steps were taken to meet the flood situation. Cabinet expansion

The Chief Minister also said that he would expand the Cabinet at an appropriate time after the ensuing Assembly session.

On chikungunya, he said that out of 68,000 fever cases reported in the district, the percentage of people suffering from the disease was "very less".
