JAIPUR: A Cabinet Sub-Committee in Rajasthan has formulated a draft policy on multi-storey buildings in Jaipur keeping in view the emerging needs and urban development of the Pink City while preserving its heritage status. The Sub-Committee, headed by Public Works Department Minister Rajendra Rathore, met here on Saturday to finalise the draft policy which will be sent to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for her approval. Mr. Rathore pointed out that the population of Jaipur, which was at present 30 lakhs, was likely to touch the 50-lakh figure by 2025, requiring the construction of 30,000 dwelling units every year. The Minister said the constant expansion of the city had led to the inclusion of agricultural land in the urban area and created pressure on infrastructure. The construction of multi-storey buildings for both residential and commercial purposes was expected to solve the problem to a significant extent. The National Building Code and the building bylaws of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) describe 15-metre tall buildings as multi-storey structures. Mr. Rathore said the existing bylaws allow the construction of three-storey buildings at 27-foot wide roads in the Walled City and four-storey buildings at roads of the width of more than 27 feet. In the JDA areas, multi-storey buildings can be constructed at the roads of over 18-metre width and at land plots of over 750-square metre size.
