"Narmada Valley projects will be completed on schedule"

BHOPAL: The Man major irrigation project near village Jeerabad in Dhar district on river Man, a tributary of Narmada, is ready and would soon be dedicated to the public.

This project would soon irrigate additional 15000 hectare of land. About five thousand hectare is already being irrigated by this project over the last two-year period.

It has been officially projected that in the next few years the Man project would irrigate about 25, 000 hectare of land in Dhar, Khargone and Jhabua districts and the irrigated acreage would gradually increase to 35, 000 hectare.

Man is one of the 30 major projects in the Narmada basin. The other Narmada Valley projects in Madhya Pradesh are Upper Narmada, Raghavpur Rosra, Bansania, Upper Burhner, Halon, and Matiyari in Mandla district; Bargi and Bargi - Diversion, Atariya, Chinki, Sher, Marchreva, and Shakkar in Jabalpur; Narsinghpur, Raisen, Satna in Rewa districts; Sitreva in Chhidwara district; Dudhi, Tawa, Morand, and Ganjal in Hoshangabad district; Kolar in Sehore district, Sukta, Chhota Tawa, Maheshwar, Upper Beda, and Lower Goi in Khargone district. The Sardar Sarovar Project in Gujarat has extensive area coming under its submergence in Madhya Pradesh.

Chairing a review meeting of the Narmada Valley Development Authority, the State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan stressed that the incomplete Narmada Valley projects be completed on schedule to benefit the farmers. He said that there should be no laxity when it comes to utilisation of water allocated to Madhya Pradesh under the Narmada Award.

It was informed at this meeting that geological survey has been completed for three proposed small hydel power projects at Boras (55MW), Hoshangabad (60MW) and Handia (51 MW).
