Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Mathur, Flower Bazaar, Anna Salai, Muthialpet, Chintadripet, Melur, Perambur, Triplicane, Porur, Nanganallur, Velachery, Kadapperi and Tondiarpet between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday for maintenance work.

Books released

Two books written by N. Ramasubramanyan, founder of Shri Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mannivakkam, were released by S.R. Raja, MLA of Tambaram constituency on Saturday.

While S. Radhakrishnan, former principal of SIVET college received first copy of `Maalathee Nee Maraivayoo', R. Balasubramanyan, former principal of AM Jain College received the copy of `Sindanai Sudar'.

Health camp

About 270 persons were screened at a health camp organised by Hindu Mission Hospital at Thoraipakkam on Sunday.

The team of seven doctors referred 26 persons for eye related surgeries and two for other surgeries.

Workshop on radioactivity

A workshop on radioactivity will be organised by Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists for students and science teachers of Lady Andal Venkatasubba Rao School, Chetpet on August 12.

600 persons screened at eye, dental camp

About 600 persons were screened at a free eye and dental camp held at Kasuva village near Tiruninravur on Sunday.

The camp was jointly organised by Sevalaya Charitable Trust and Singhvi Charitable Trust.

Medicines and spectacles were also provided.

Madras quiz contest

The Madras Day organisers are holding the annual Madras quiz contest in English on August 27 as part of Madras Day celebrations at P.S. Higher Secondary School, Mylapore.

A team of two persons may participate in the quiz, which is open to all.

Campus recruitment drive

About 1, 300 students from 34 city colleges participated in a campus recruitment drive for Larsen and Tourbo Infotech organised at Vel Tech Engineering college recently. About 400 students were short listed in the preliminary round and 52 students were offered jobs by L and T.

Placement for 328 students

IT companies have selected 328 students of RMK Engineering College and RMD Engineering College through campus interviews. About 425 students participated in the interviews.
