CHENNAI : The City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a man on charges of cheating the public with false promises of overseas employment with fabulous salaries. Investigating officials attached to the CCB told reporters here on Sunday that following a complaint from K S Mohanasundaram of Gopichettipalayam, a discreet probe was conducted on Rex Trivethi alias Rajesh Trivethi (42) of Nawabganj, Durgakund, Varanasi. It was found that Trivethi had released advertisements in newspapers stating that he would get jobs in top educational institutions in China, U.S. and Europe. Believing the claim, Mohanasundaram furnished his original certificates and passport in December 2005. But even after six months, when Trivethi did not get him a job as promised, Mohanasundaram lodged a complaint with police. He also alleged that Trivethi demanded Rs 20,000 for returning his certificates and passport. Based on the complaint, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Vellathurai investigated the case and subsequently arrested Trivethi from a hotel in T Nagar late on Saturday night. They found that he was in possession of Rs 3,690 cash, $160, a few other foreign currencies, mobile phone and passports. According to a police press note, the accused used to advertise job opportunities abroad and conduct recruitment interviews in hotels all over the country. He collected original certificates and passports, but returned them only after taking money, the note stated. The accused has been booked on charges of cheating and giving false promises.
