Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Level Placement Programme (TNSLPP), organised by Anna University for students in engineering colleges in the State got under way on Sunday. Over 1,800 students from 72 non-autonomous and self-financing colleges participated in the first day of the programme. "The TNSLPP, that was hitherto conducted only in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore, will include Salem and Tiruchi from this year onwards. This would enable more rural students to benefit from the drive," Vice-Chancellor D. Viswanathan said.

The drive would cover 26 colleges in Coimbatore and would go on till April next year. It would also include 49 colleges in Madurai, 46 colleges in Salem and 29 colleges in Tiruchi.

Chandrasekhar Dharuman, vice president and location head, Wipro Technologies, said the number of students recruited by the company increased from 250 two years ago to 400 last year.
