Hyderabad
Heritage structure Though `Golden Threshold' in Abids was donated to Central University to perpetuate the memory of Sarojini Naidu, there is no sign to show that the poetess lived there or penned her worksthere , except for a casual mention on the board in front of the building. The site has been denuded of all vegetation and all vintage trees have been felled. One wonders whether there is anything there to preserve the poetess' memory. This is gross injustice. The whole building should have been treated as a heritage structure and the vignettes of the past preserved. It is not too late for the university to do justice to Sarojini Naidu's memory. Jaya Raj, Masab Tank Put up signboards Hyderabad and Secunderabad are not well planned like Bangalore, where one can easily locate the address in any part of the city with the help of names of the roads, layouts, and apartments. Due to poor planning and maintenance, most of the apartments in the twin cities have dull or small signboards. Municipal authorities should instruct managements, associations, or societies of residential apartments to exhibit the name of their building in suitable bold letters and radium paint. These stipulations may be imposed on builders while giving them permission for construction of the buildings. Kothapalli Mallesh, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Good scheme The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has adopted a novel method of collecting property tax through lucky draws. Cash prizes are given to winners who pay their property tax before July 31 and October 16. The advertisement reads `More roads, more amenities and a very happy Hyderabad. Only when property tax is paid by all, in time.' This scheme is showing good results. Hence, I request the other municipalities to follow the above example. N. Sukumar Yapral Ban this `U' turn This is with reference to your news item `Begumpet-Punjagutta Road continues to be a nightmare' published on July 30. I would like to add that the traffic from Bramanbasti side is allowed to take a `U' turn near the flyover. This is holding up traffic near the flyover. Entry from the wrong side is not allowed anywhere near a flyover. It should be prohibited here too to alleviate congestion to some extent at least. P.V. Subba Rao, Secunderabad
