Held on extortion charge

VIJAYAWADA: The police on Sunday took an attender in the First Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court and his friend into custody on the charge of indulging in extortion. The police charged Bhaskara Rao, a resident of Madhura Nagar, and an attender in the court and his friend Sridhar of Krishnalanka on the charge of extorting money from P. Madhusudan Rao, a bench clerk. The police charged Bhaskara Rao with stealing a file pertaining to a case from Madhusudana Rao and keeping it in the possession of Sridhar. Bhaskara Rao was accused of demanding Rs. 50,000 for handing over the file and clinched a deal for Rs. 22,000. Following a complaint form Madhusudan Rao, the police took Sridhar into custody while collecting the money.
