BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday said the Government proposed to invest Rs. 700 crore for a project designed to provide continuous power supply to consumers across the State, benefiting all villages in particular. Inaugurating a mini Vidhana Soudha, several development programmes and a Rural Load Management System (RLMS) at Ramanagaram near here, Mr. Kumaraswamy reiterated that the State would also raise Rs. 1,000 crore for the integrated development of 1,000 villages as part of the "Suvarna Karnataka" initiative. The Government would give priority to these projects, he added. He criticised the Union Government for stipulating 14 stringent conditions for the implementation of a housing scheme announced earlier. If these conditions were followed, not one family could be provided a house, he observed. On NABARD's reported reservations over the Government's proposal to provide loans to farmers at an interest rate of 4 per cent, Mr. Kumaraswamy noted that the Union Government gave loans at a higher rate. Mr. Kumaraswamy charged that the Opposition was making baseless allegations against him to tarnish the Government's image.
