Three arrested for beating bus driver
Around 1-15 a.m. on Saturday, the police received information that an injured person had been thrown out of a moving car near Radisson Hotel. The injured, later identified as Naveen, was taken to Safdarjung Hospital. In a statement to the police, Naveen said he worked as driver of a bus plying on route No. 729 from Kapashera to Mori Gate Terminal. Davender Singh, owner of another bus plying on the same route, its driver Om Prakash and conductor Satyavrat, used to have frequent altercations with him over bus timings. A few days ago, they threatened him again. On August 4 night when Naveen was returning from his sister's house, Davender Singh, his brother Sanjay, Dinesh and Satyavrat allegedly intercepted him, forced him into their vehicle and beat him up. They then allegedly took him near Davender's office at Mahipalpur Pahari and beat him with hockey sticks. When he fell unconscious, they dumped him near Radisson Hotel.
Four held for cheating
The Mohali police had recently received a complaint from Manpreet Singh alleging that he had been cheated by some persons on the pretext of getting him a job in the United Kingdom through the British Council. He received e-mail through a Yahoo account in this regard, asking him to deposited 380 pounds (Rs. 33,560) in a SBI account. He was also asked to contact Dr. Meyer Praise over a Delhi mobile number who asked him to deposit more money. Suspecting that he was being taken for a ride, Manpreet checked the British Council's website and was shocked when he came across a warning about bogus e-mails claiming that jobs were being offered in the United Kingdom through British Council. Subsequently, Manpreet lodged a complaint. Further investigations led to the arrest of three Nigerian nationals, Riches Samuel, Peter A.K. and George A. Magbur, and one Nirja Malik, a resident of Vasant Kunj in South-West Delhi whose bank account was being used to cheat people.
Hospital fined
for negligence
The Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission held the Vasant Vihar-based Goyal Medical Centre guilty of `taking chances' when they were required to resort to safest course to save the baby of Reena whose uterus got ruptured as she was not operated upon for taking out the baby alive. "The safest course should have been adopted by the appellant instead of taking chance in making the delivery normal by inducing artificial pain instead of resorting to lower segment of caesarean section,'' said the Commission Bench comprising Justice J.D. Kapoor and Member Rumnitta rejecting the appeal.
