Man kills children, commits suicide

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 40-year-old man allegedly strangled his two children and stabbed his wife before committing suicide by consuming poison at Burari in North Delhi on Saturday. His wife is stated to be out of danger.

Around 5-30 a.m. on Sunday, the police received a call from one Deepak claiming that his sister Paramjeet had been stabbed by his brother-in-law Satender Singh and he had got her admitted to Trauma Centre.

Investigations revealed that the incident took place late on Saturday evening when Paramjeet, who works at a public booth, returned home. She enquired about the children from Satender, to which he gave a vague answer. Suspecting that something was amiss, Paramjeet asked him again about their whereabouts. Satender then allegedly attacked her with a pair of scissors and stabbed her in the chest and face. However, she somehow managed to flee from the house after locking Satender inside the house. She then went to her brother's house from where they went to various hospitals in search of the children. Unable to trace them, they called up the police from Sushrut Trauma Centre, where she has been admitted.

The police went to Paramjeet's Burari residence and discovered the body of Satender, who worked as a temporary employee at a hospital, lying on the ground floor. The bodies of his 13-year-old daughter Rekha and 10-year-old son Gaurav were found on the first floor of the house. There were ligature marks around their neck suggesting that they had been strangled.

Circumstantial evidence indicates that after killing his children, Satender tried to murder his wife and then consumed some poisonous substance, due to which he died.

Paramjeet married Satender 15 years ago. They started living separately about two years ago due to marital discord. A few days ago, Satender again started living with his wife and children but used to fight with her quite often.
