HYDERABAD: India has the potential and human resources to compete with China on both costs and quality, according to Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju. Addressing a gathering on Saturday after opening a new zonal service centre of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), he said that the only challenge that India faced was China and that the country had been well equipped to deal with it and go ahead. Mr. Raju expressed happiness that BEML had been focusing on efforts to capture markets abroad and said it was encouraging to note that Indian companies were getting due recognition in the global arena.
Positive growth
Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohan Rao said that Andhra Pradesh had an overall positive growth and it was good that BEML chose the city to serve as a service hub for western and southern regions. With the State witnessing a construction boom along with the progressive work on several irrigation projects, BEML's service centre would serve well, he said. BEML's CMD V.R.S. Natarajan said that they were working on scaling up their exports. The company's turnover in the last fiscal was Rs. 2,205 crores, including exports of Rs. 64 crores. They were working to reach Rs. 2,800 crores by end of the current fiscal year, including an export component of Rs. 100 crores. The company was also planning on having a manufacturing plant in Brazil.
