State urged to honour Ganesh idol tradition
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former city MP Bandaru Dattatreya has urged the State Government to take steps for safeguarding the tradition of Ganesh idol immersion in the Hussainsagar.
"It is the responsibility of the Government to honour the sentiments of a large number of Hindus," he said at a press conference here on Sunday.
Alleging that the Government had failed to put forth its case before the High Court in the right perspective, he urged it to submit facts to ensure that the immersion ritual was allowed.
Dismissing criticism that the annual ritual was polluting the lake, he said it was the incessant flow of effluents and sewage from industries and hotels and rampant encroachments on the lake foreshore that were killing the lake.
He sought to know as to why no action was taken against large-scale encroachments along the lake.
