dated August 8, 1956: Appeal to music sabhas

An appeal to the music sabhas to not only encourage young talented artistes but also to preserve the high standards set up by the exponents of the classical tradition, was made by Dr. C.P. Ramaswami Aiyar, while presiding over the inauguration of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Mylapore, Madras, on August 6. Mr. T.T. Krishnamachari, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, who inaugurated the celebrations, stressed the need to encourage vidwans who were specialists in their own way of rendering music. He referred in appreciative terms to the work of the Sabha and said if it had come to occupy a pre-eminent position, it was no mean achievement. Mr. T.L. Venkatarama Aiyar, Judge of the Supreme Court and President of the Sabha, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief account of the activities of the institution. He said that since its inception the Sabha had been striving its best to fulfil its objective of maintaining the traditions in classical music. The Sabha was running a music school and also conducted music competitions. Sangita Kalanidhi Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar said there was no doubt that the Sabha had been giving every encouragement to classical music.
