Symposium to focus on seeds, planting material

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore, in association with Society for Promotion of Horticulture, is conducting a national symposium on "Improving input use efficiency in horticulture" from August 9 to 11, in Bangalore.

The symposium will be covering the theme areas in horticulture such as efficiency in the use of seed and planting material, water, nutrients, pesticides and labour.

Getting maximum benefit from minimal input and optimal use of natural resources will be the main focus of the symposium, said S.D. Shikamani, Director of Indian Institute of Horticulture.

He said: "It aims at taking stock of the developed technologies, maintaining quality of produce, sustaining productivity and making horticultural enterprise more remunerative and cost-competitive globally."

M.K. Krishnakumar, head of the Division of Entomology at Indian Institute of Horticulture, said over 300 participants, including scientists, progressive farmers, technocrats, and Horticulture Department officials would be present at the symposium.
