Thiruvananthapuram: The Newspaper in Education (NIE) programme organised by The Hindu at Sree Vidyadhiraja Vidya Mandir Upper Primary School, Vellayambalam, took off on Monday at a formal function. The former Chief Secretary R. Ramachandran Nair, who also chairs the Vidyadhiraja Trust, inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, Mr. Nair spoke about the deterioration of reading habit among the younger generation. He lauded the contribution of The Hindu in helping to improve the vocabulary and language of young readers.
Headmaster Raveendran Nair welcomed the gathering. Vikas, head boy, proposed the vote of thanks. NIE coordinator Priya G. Nair and other resource persons attended the function.
