UNIQUE: Ranna Gill's creation

NEW DELHI: Inspired by the appeal of handcrafted sensibilities, the Ranna Gill collection titled "Ikat" will be released at the "Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week" that will be held in the Capital from August 30 to September 3.

The collection owes its origin to the naturally luxurious yarn-dyed fabrics of Central Asia. No wonder, the handcrafted abstract designs with intricately finished geometrical patterns have derived inspiration from the bazaars of Bukhara and Samarkand.

Fashion designer Ranna Gill has created her line of signature Ikat prints that are a medley of vibrant colours including warm spice red, fuchsia, indigo blue, turquoise and chutney green. To create a striking effect, the collection -- encompassing various silhouettes for day and evening wear -- has been emblazoned with precious and painstakingly done embroidery work.

The designer pays tribute to the dress in all its forms including kimonos, wraps, pinafore, pleated empires, peasants and clinch-waisted tea length dresses with flounced hems. Pegged and column skirts are combined with billowy peasant blouses, bibbed jersey tops and dolman sleeved tunics. And daywear jackets with pouf sleeves complete the range.

The fabric story is dominated by contemporary summer classics such as silk and cotton jersey, voile and linen along with luxuriously woven silk and silk blends for the evening.

Synonymous with panache and impeccable sensibility, the Ranna Gill label began its journey in 1991 when the designer completed an associate degree from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in the Capital. She went on to acquire a bachelor's degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

While working under the tutelage of the late acclaimed designer Rohit Khosla and Donna Karan, Ranna gained valuable experience and knowledge. She considers fashion design as an art form and believes that each creation is unique.
