ANANTAPUR: The State Government has approved a master plan for development in Sri Satya Sai Urban Development Authority area in Puttaparthi and surrounding villages in the district by issuing a GO (No. 412) on August 4. As per the order, the authority covers an area of 71.26 sqkm in Puttaparthi, Brahmanapalli, Beedupalli, Enumulapalli, Kappalabanda and Locherla villages. An authority by name Puttaparthi Urban Development Authority was formed in February 1992 covering the first five villages. Locherla was included in the authority area and the nomenclature was changed to Sri Satya Sai Urban Development Authority in September 1996. Meanwhile, Chairman of the authority K. Satyanarayana has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to sanction of Rs. 24 crores for development of infrastructure and beautification to make Puttaparthi and surrounding areas a major tourist and pilgrimage centre.
