Maudhany's bail plea: Government to reply by Friday

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court, hearing the bail petition of People's Democratic Party leader Abdul Nasser Maudhany in the Coimbatore serial blasts case, has asked the Tamil Nadu Government to file its reply by August 11.

Justice M. Thanikachalam adjourned the matter to August 11. The court also sought to know the status of the blasts case trial in the designated court in Coimbatore.

While N. Natarajan, senior counsel for the petitioner, said Mr. Maudhany was in jail for over eight years and required specialised medical attention, State Public Prosecutor Raja Ilango said the prosecution submissions in the trial was nearing completion. A team of doctors visited the undertrial even last week.

In his petition, Mr. Maudhany said the Ayurvedic treatment given to him in jail was "not sufficient to restore his health condition."

His presence in an artificial limb centre was necessary for treating his limb, because if it were not changed immediately it would pose a serious problem to his life.
