Focus on blood pressure in teenagers

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal on Monday said borderline blood pressures in teenagers must never be ignored.

"About seven per cent of teens with hypertension will progress to fixed hypertension each year. In adults also, current blood pressure is known to be the strongest predictor of future blood pressure," added Dr. Aggarwal.

Quoting from a study done by Bonita Falkner from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Dr. Aggarwal said that among boys, five per cent of those who had normal blood pressure at the first measurement were hypertensive by the second measurement, while 31 per cent of those who were hypertensive at the first measurement were hypertensive at the second.

Fast against move to amend RTI Act

NEW DELHI: Sandeep Pandey, national convenor of National Alliance for People's Movements, will undertake a fast at Jantar Mantar here on Tuesday to protest against the recent decision by the Union Cabinet to amend the Right to Information Act.

In a statement, Mr. Pandey said the United Progressive Alliance seems to be quite worried about the implications of all decisions becoming public as they will probably expose the irregularities in the decision-making process.

The Cabinet, he said, will have to take this step back as otherwise it will face an awakened citizenry that is committed to take this fight to its logical end.

Apeejay convocation

NEW DELHI: The Apeejay School of Management held its 10th convocation at Dwarka over the weekend.

Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai, who was the chief guest, said: "Convocation is a solemn ceremony that reminds the students of the responsibilities that awaits them to serve the country to the best of their abilities as a manager. And Apeejay School of Management is an institute in the forefront of management education, training and research."

Mr. Kidwai awarded degrees and diplomas to 294 post-graduate students.

One more AC coach

NEW DELHI: The 2421 and 2422 New Delhi-Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express train has been augmented by one additional AC 3 tier coach with immediate effect up to August 18 from New Delhi and August 20 from Bhubaneshwar.

The 2443 and 2444 New Delhi-Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani Express train (via Tata Nagar) has been augmented by one additional AC 3 tier coach with immediate effect up to August 16 from New Delhi and August 18 from Bhubaneshwar.
