Centre urged to ban soft drinks

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Janata Dal (Secular) leader from Kerala Veerendra Kumar on Monday urged the Centre to ban Coca Cola and Pepsi, in the wake of the recent report by the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment that the soft drinks continued to contain pesticide residues.

Speaking to reporters, he said the Centre must act to protect the health of the people. The multinational companies producing the soft drinks could not be allowed to go scot-free.

"It was strange that the Union Health Ministry was still talking in favour of the companies."
