Backward classes commission chief

NEW DELHI: The Government on Monday appointed the former Supreme Court judge, S. Ratnavel Pandian, as Chairman of the National Commission for Backward Classes for three years. After retirement from the Apex Court, Justice Pandian headed the Fifth Central Pay Commission.

He was the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court for a brief while before moving to the Supreme Court in 1988. He retired from the Supreme Court in 1994.
