HYDERABAD: The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti has demanded that the Government approach the High Court and ensure that the idol immersion took place only in Hussainsagar. Committee leaders including those of the State BJP, headed by samiti president G. Pulla Reddy, came to the Secretariat to meet Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday and urged the Government to allow immersion in the lake. Dr. Reddy had already left for East Godavari district to undertake an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. The leaders tried to meet Chief Secretary J. Harinarayan to plead the case of the samiti and to get a court order for allowing the immersion.
Ignore verdict
B. Bal Reddy, BJP vice-president, told press persons that the immersion would take place only in Hussainsagar. "Any Government that tried in the past to stall the immersion suffered and the Chief Minister had to step down," he said. The Government should not be rigid on the issue, as several other court verdicts had been ignored. Mr. Pulla Reddy charged the Government with failing to act in time and construct bunds in a corner of the lake for immersion.
