Office-bearers of Cosmopolitan Club

B.L. Ramamurthy has been elected president of the Cosmopolitan Club, Jayangar, in the biennial elections held recently. The other office-bearers elected are: K. Nagaraj (vice-president), A.N.K. Lawyers Collective stages protest

A small gathering of people from Lawyers Collective staged a protest in front of the GlaxoSmithKline office in Bangalore on Monday in protest against the company's application for a patent on Combivir, a medicine for HIV/AIDS. Anand Grover, Director of the Lawyers Collective, HIV/AIDS unit, said: "Patents create monopolies on drug manufacture and prevent the production of affordable generic versions of the same drug." N.Y. Sanglikar, Head of Corporate Communications of the company, said he was not aware of the development. "I will have to check with the head office in the United Kingdom," he added.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has invited applications from eligible candidates for a 10-day training in poultry from August 17 to 26 at State Poultry Farm, Hessarghatta. M.Sc. Computer Science

BANGALORE: From this academic year (2006-07), the Department of Computer Science and Applications, Bangalore University, Central College campus, is starting a two-year (four semesters) M.Sc Computer Science course. Graduates with B.Sc., or BCA degree with at least 50 per cent aggregate marks can apply. The minimum requirement for SC/ST candidates has been relaxed as per university regulations.
