Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A high-profile murder accused facing trial escaped from judicial custody when he was being taken for treatment to Victoria Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Police said Nagendra Reddy (26) was arrested by the Upparpet Police in connection with the murder of one Rajesh Artham that occurred on January 19, 2005. Reddy, who was in London for sometime, had allegedly committed a murder in a similar fashion. The Scotland Yard Police had approached the Bangalore police in this connection, police said.

The accused was admitted to Victoria Hospital on August 2 after he complained of backache. He was being taken for taking an X-ray escorted by a reserve police head constable. On the way to X-ray theatre, the accused wanted to have juice at a stall within the hospital compound. When it was being ordered, he escaped after jumping the compound wall, police said.
