People stone bus after it knocks down pedestrian

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Angry public on Monday stoned a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus that knocked down a pedestrian killing him on the spot, on Tannery Road in Fraser Town traffic police station limits.

Police said that around 8.45 a.m., the BMTC bus bound for Hegde Nagar from the Kempegowda Bus Station, hit Raja (35) near Doddi Circle.

When Raja, a labourer and a resident of Ambedkar slum on Tannery Road, died on the spot, people blocked the road. Some miscreants stoned the bus, damaging its windscreen.

Traffic on Tannery Road was affected for more than an hour following the snap protest.

Police rushed to spot, pacified the protestors and dispersed them. Tension prevailed in the area for some time, the police said.

Two killed

Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Sunday. Police said Jaishekar (35) was killed after a motorcycle hit his bicycle on Whitefield Road around 2.30 p.m.

The motorcyclist, who was injured, has been hospitalised, police said. The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case.

In the other incident, Fakirappa (60), a pedestrian, was killed after a moped hit him on Sarjapur Road, off Kaikondanahalli, around 9 p.m. The Adugodi traffic police have seized the moped and registered a case.
