dated August 9, 1956: Dr. H.C. Mukerjee

The body of Dr. H.C. Mukerjee, Governor of Bengal, who died suddenly on August 7, was laid to rest in his family vault in the Lower Circular Road cemetery, Calcutta, on August 8. Dr. Mukerjee was not keeping good health for the past one week. At about 5.30 p.m. he complained of uneasiness. A specialist was summoned but before he could arrive, Dr. Mukerjee died. Both Houses of Parliament adjourned on August 8 as a mark of respect to his memory.
