TIRUPATI: Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra had to incur the wrath of Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) for reportedly speaking in favour of a multinational cola brand, which she endorses. The activists, who gathered at the Railway Colony park here on Tuesday, burnt an effigy of the actress for allegedly taking cudgels for the cola brand and issuing statements to the effect that the drink was not at all harmful. This, they said, was in sharp contrast to the finding of pesticide traces by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). Terming it as the `videshi' company's ploy to employ the actress to hoodwink gullible Swadeshi cola lovers, the SJM's State secretary A. Krishna Kishore criticised that it was unbecoming of film and sports personalities to endorse brands that were proved to be harmful. He also urged them not to become pawns in the hands of multinationals which "do not have any social responsibility". The SJM also criticised the MNCs for using popular media to inject western culture in the minds of youth in order to culturally enfeeble the country.
