Rupee ends higher

MUMBAI: After opening slightly lower, the rupee recovered sharply against the dollar and closed higher at 46.53/54 a dollar in active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting on Tuesday and firm dollar overseas.

Resuming subdued at 46.60/61 against Monday's close of 46.5850/5950 due to heavy dollar purchases by banks in favour of oil PSUs to meet their import expenditure, the Indian unit later recovered sharply on the back of exporter dollar selling. It moved in a range of 46.52-46.64. — PTI
