ERODE: Garment exporters and manufacturers of Erode would attend Fatex Fair to be held in France from November 7 to 9, said the secretary of the Erode Textile Garment Exporters Association, S. Sivananthan, on Tuesday.
International show
Fatex, an international show for industrial manufactures of clothing and textiles, offers an opportunity to showcase products and industrial capacity and enter into contracts.
Last year more than 7,000 buyers from 34 countries participated in the fair. Mr Sivananthan said Erode was well-known for its fabrics and garments.
More potential
"Every year we are exporting garments worth Rs. 100 crore to Europe and the US. However, India's share in the garment export trade is only 2.5 to 3 per cent. We have to increase the export of garments. We have enough potential to export hundred times more than the present volume,'' he said. "Young entrepreneurs are coming forward in large numbers for the readymade garment production and we have to encourage them. For which the Garment Exporters Association need sufficient space to locate the industries," he said.
Textile Park
He said there was a proposal to establish an Integrated Textile Park with garment producers and textile processors. "Union Government will grant 40 per cent subsidy for infrastructure development of the park. Banks will advance with reasonable interest," he said and added that the exporters were searching for a suitable site for the park.
Training
Erode Textile Garment Exporters Association has decided to impart training to people in tailoring, quality control, cutting, trimming and line supervision. "The Association will take initiatives to teach French and Japanese, as language is a barrier for garment exporters," he added.
