Rs.10-crore flood relief sought

Pondicherry: Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader M. Ramadoss has urged Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to immediately release Rs.10 crore from the Natural and Disaster Management Fund to the Pondicherry Administration to manage the situation caused by the floods in Yanam.

In a release here from New Delhi on Tuesday, he said he had met Mr. Patil as soon as the information reached him about the floods in Yanam. He said public and private properties had been hit and fishermen, farmers and the farm labourers were put to distress.

Over 12,000 huts were marooned in floodwater. The preliminary assessment of the flood damage was around Rs 50 crore.
