NEW DELHI: The Ghaziabad police have registered a case of kidnapping and murder in connection with the killing of two young men in an alleged encounter with the Special Staff of the North Delhi police on July 31. According to the Delhi police, Zulfikar and Nazakat, residents of Hawalpur in Ghaziabad, were killed in an encounter at Timarpur. Claiming that the two were hardened criminals, the police had then said that two country-made firearms and a stolen vehicle had been recovered from their possession. However, their relatives and area residents alleged that a Delhi police constable, Ashok, got them murdered in the fake encounter to avenge his brother Digambar's murder, in which the two were accused. In the wake of protests over the "fake" encounter, the area District Magistrate ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter. It is learnt that two residents of the village, in their statement, claimed that on July 31, Zulfikar and Nazakat had gone to court regarding Digambar murder case and they were abducted from there. A case of kidnapping and murder has been registered against Ashok and three others.
