Bidar: The Bidar Fast Track Court on Tuesday acquitted four persons accused of sacrificing a five-year-old boy six years ago for the sake of finding a hidden treasure. The judge M.S. Kanthi acquitted Shatrughna Hibare, Lakshman Manikappa, Siddappa Sharanappa, and Manohar Chennamma as the prosecution had failed to prove the charges levelled against the accused. The judge observed that the 36 witnesses in the case, including the mother of the victim, Kalavati, had turned hostile. Basavaraj, alias Bablu, was found murdered in Hallikhed (B) village on April 1, 2000. The head was severed from the body. Investigation revealed that he had been sacrificed for the sake of a hidden treasure. The case assumed importantce after an accused was arrested from the farmhouse of a politician in Humnabad.
Debate in Assembly
Debates in the Legislative Assembly led to the Government appointing a Deputy Superintendent of Police G.M. Yatnur as the investigating officer. Mr. Yatnur had filed the charge-sheet. However, many dimensions of the case remain unsolved. The black magician who had advised the sacrifice remains absconding. These questions remain on the minds of concerned citizens. If these four did not kill the boy, then who did it? Why did the police fail to arrest the right culprits and prove their guilt?
