CPI to conduct `save Bhavani, Cauvery' rally

Staff Reporter

ERODE: Bhavani taluk branch of the CPI will conduct a `Save Bhavani and Cauvery Rivers' rally on August 27. This was unanimously resolved at the meeting of the Bhavani CPI on Sunday presided over by the unit secretary K.N. Arumugam.

The meeting said for the past some years `unlimited quantities' of effluents from textile dyeing units and municipal sewage water were being discharged into the Bhavani and Cauvery River in Bhavani area. Large-scale sand mining caused more problems.

The Bhavani CPI unit has decided to conduct a rally on August 27 in Sithar, Appakudal, Perunthalaiyur villages to press the Government to take stringent action against those who were responsible for destruction of these rivers. Apart from CPI members, tribals, environmentalists and the general public would participate in the rally.

The meeting requested the Government to enhance the subsidies to the public for the construction of low-cost toilets.
