Whirlpool records 30 p.c. jump in sales

Onam festival promotion offer announced

KOCHI: Whirlpool, manufacturer of home appliances, has recorded 30 per cent jump in gross sales over the last year in Kerala. The company expects to notch up 26 per cent market share in the refrigerator category, 16 per cent in washing machine and 10 per cent in microwave oven this year.

Unveiling the company's promotion offer on the occasion of Onam, Tamal Kanti Saha, vice-president-Sales, Whirlpool of India, said Kerala was an important market for the company. The company expected to sell products worth Rs.50 crores during the Onam season.

A special offer called `Vajragosham' would commence from August 10 to September 15, said Anup Jain, general manager, Brand Marketing.

Any customer buying a Whirlpool home appliance will get prizes including diamond pendant, cookware set and travel bag.

Whirlpool is also organising an Onasadya recipe contest at Kochi, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kottayam.

There will be a Kaikottikkali dance contest in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.

The company will also organise a road show called `magic on the move' which will display the new range of Fusion refrigerators and Splash washing machines.

Whirlpool Corporation recorded annual sales of more than $19 billion in 2005. It has about 60 manufacturing and technology centres around the globe. The net sale in India during April 2005-March 2006 stood at Rs.1,274 crores with an operating profit of Rs.14.57 crores.

The company has a facility to manufacture no-frost refrigerators at Ranjangaon near Pune. Washing machines are manufactured at a facility in Pondicherry.

Products manufactured in India are exported to different countries.

Regional technology centres have been set up in Pune and Pondicherry. A global consumer design centre has been set up in New Delhi in 2005.
