Three vessels launched from Cochin Shipyard

Shipyard secures contracts for three major works


  • Aircraft carrier for Indian Navy being built by CSL
  • Registers a net profit of 18.23 crores

    KOCHI: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CLS) launched three vessels on Wednesday at a brief function held at the Shipyard. The vessels were: a bulk carrier for Clipper group of Bahamas, a fire-fighting tug for ATCO Saudi Arabia, and a platform vessel for Deep Sea Supplies of Norway.

    The flooding of the dock was commenced by Ms. Kanwal Bedi and the chief guest of the day was Vice Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (South). Commodore M. Jitendran, Chairman and Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited and other senior officials of the Shipyard were present.

    The vessel for the Clipper group was named Clipper Trust by Ms. Helle Rasmussen who also broke the champagne bottle on the occasion. Jacob Hogh Thygesen of the Clipper Group and Naval Oonwala representing Deep Sea Supplies, offered felicitations.

    Meanwhile, a spokesman for the CSL said Clipper Target, launched three months ago, would be handed over to the Clipper Group on Thursday.

    The net profit of the Shipyard has gone up by 30 per cent as compared to 2004-05. The net profit stood at Rs.18.23 crores for 2005-06. The net worth stood at Rs.284.85 crores as on March 31, this year compared to Rs.266.62 crores during the previous year.

    The Yard also logged the highest shipbuilding achievement of 1,01,663 DWT during the last financial year.

    The Shipyard secured contracts for three major works from the ONGC valued approximately Rs.370 crores.

    During the last year, the Shipyard also delivered three fire-fighting tugs and launched a bulk carrier along with a platform supply vessel.

    The present order book for the Shipyard comprises a 30,000-DWT bulk carrier, 12 platform supply vessels and the aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy.
