KOTTAYAM: Authorities of Mahatma Gandhi University have debarred all 17 students who were caught engaging in fraudulent practices while taking their Semester IV MBA examinations at Jai Bharath Arts and Science College, Perumbavoor, from appearing for further examinations. The college management has been asked to remove Principal and chief examiner P.J. Sebastian and director of the department K.H. Shahjahan from their respective posts. The examination squad had recovered half-a-dozen mobile phones and material for copying from the students during a surprise check at the examination hall on Tuesday. Two of the students were ousted on the spot. The university authorities had also cancelled the examination centre at Jai Bharath college and had moved the candidates to Mar Thoma College for Women, Perumbavoor. Controller of Examination Thomas John Mampra said the university had decided to institute a comprehensive inquiry into the issue. Members of the Syndicate sub-committee on examinations Joseph George and K.G. Narayana Pillai have been entrusted with the inquiry. Further action will be taken on the basis of their report, which will be submitted within two weeks, he said.
