CHIKMAGALUR: Congress workers staged a demonstration in front of government offices here on Wednesday seeking the dismissal of the coalition government and a CBI inquiry into the bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. Calling it the "Quit Kumaraswamy" campaign, Congress workers shouted slogans against the State Government. In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, they criticised the BJP for not allowing Janardhan Reddy, MLC, to speak about his charge against the Chief Minister. B.L. Shankar, former Chairman of the Legislative Council, said leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular) had distanced themselves from party president H.D. Deve Gowda. Stating that polarisation of secular forces had started in the State, Mr. Shankar said the merger of the AIPJD with the Congress was the beginning of this process.
Nationwide programme
He said the Congress would undertake a nationwide programme to regain its position on the political map of the country. Stating that the Chief Minister should have resigned following the allegations against him, he pointed out that the terms of reference for the judicial inquiry constituted by the Government did not include the allegations made by Mr. Reddy. B.A. Moyiddin, former minister and KPCC observer; Savitha Ramesh, vice-president of the Chikmagalur zilla panchayat; and B.L. Ramdas, president of the District Congress Committee, spoke. Earlier, Congress workers organised a motorcycle rally through the main streets of the town.
