`Priority given to water, power supply schemes'

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: N. Suryanarayan Reddy, Kurgodu MLA, has claimed that he has given top priority to providing drinking water supply and improving power supply in his constituency.

Speaking to presspersons here, he said he had proposed setting up of substations, replacement of transformers and the like at an estimated cost of Rs. 35.20 crore.

As many as three 110/11 kV substations had been sanctioned for Paramdevanahalli, Mundargi Industrial Areas III Stage and Bisalahalli. Proposals to set up two substations, 110/11 kV at Y. Boodihal and another 33/11 kV at Yerragudi, had been sent for approval. Similarly, the works of substations at Yemmiganur and Kuditini were on and would be completed before October this year, he said.

As far as drinking water supply was concerned, he said projects had been sanctioned for Chellagurki and nine surrounding villages, Yerragudi, Amarapur and five surrounding villages, Paramdevanahalli, Chaganur, Shankarbanda, Yelbenchi, Genikihal, Kalkambh and Mustagatti.

He was confident that approval for these works would be given in about a week. Mr. Reddy also claimed that he, after becoming MLA, had ensured that all the works, which were pending, were taken up.

He said some of the works were completed and others were in progress. He said Rs. 2.65 crore, of the Rs. 3.02 crore sanctioned, had been spent on the Kuditini water supply scheme.

Asked whether he was satisfied with the transfer of officials of the irrigation department in the wake of his complaint against them for substandard canal repair works, Mr. Reddy said the Chief Engineer had ordered an inquiry into the matter and a report was awaited.
