Natwar brought "disrepute" to party: Pranab

K.V. Prasad

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday night said former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, had been suspended from the party's primary membership for bringing "disrepute" to the organisation by his conduct

Mr. Singh would get two weeks to respond to the show-cause notice. The disciplinary action committee would wait for the leader's version.

Mr. Mukherjee and A.K. Antony made the announcement of suspension.

Mr. Mukherjee and Mr. Antony said Mr. Singh had misused his position as leader of a Congress team to Iraq in January 2001 by furthering the commercial interests of his son Jagat Singh and Andaleeb Sehgal.
