Lady Doak retains title

MADURAI: Lady Doak College regained the Mepco Schlenk Trophy, after a lapse two years, defeating its archrival and defending champion Fatima College 3-1 in the final of Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate women's table tennis tournament at University indoor-Stadium here on Wednesday.

The results: L.D.C. bt Fatima 3-1 (R. Kavitha bt S. Kavitha 11-9, 15-13, 7-11, 11-8; Rippu Gupta bt Ishwarya 11-3, 11-2, 11-9; Shalini lost to Kokila 9-11, 3-11, 1-11; Rippu Gupta bt S. Kantha 11-1, 11-5, 11-4).

Thrilling win

At Dindigul, trailing 20-27 at the interval, Akshya BC, Palani rallied to beat OX BC, Dharapuram 45-41 in the inaugural match of the 28th annual Ravi memorial trophy State-level open basketball tournament conducted by the Rotary Club of Dindigul West and MSP Soalai Nadar MHSS at the school ground on Wednesday.

The results: Akshya BC 45 (D. Gopalakrishnan 14, S. Ramesh Kumar 14) bt OX BC 41 (Kamalanathan 14, S. Ram Kumar 12).

Tiruvarur posts win

Host Tiruvarur defeated Sivaganga by virtue of its first innings lead in the TNCA Sumeru Soft inter-district under-17 (second stage) cricket match on Wednesday.

The scores: Sivaganga 173 & 58 for seven in 10.3 overs (Anbarasan four for 26) lost to Tiruvarur 211 in 82 overs (Anbarasan 45, Arulanand five for 49).

Double for Nirupama

At Cuddalore, V. Nirupama won the under-10 and under-13 titles at the district-level badminton championship conducted by the Cuddalore District Badminton Association here.

Kancheepuram advances

Kancheepuram DCA by virtue of its first innings lead against Erode entered the semifinals of the TNCA inter-district under-13 cricket tournament at the Velalar CE&T grounds in Thindal, Erode, on Wednesday.

The scores: At Erode: Kancheepuram DCA 201 & 75 for four decl. in 16 overs (K. Ramu three for 15) bt Erode DCA 66 in 60.4 overs (Vasanth four for 30) & 46 for six in 25 overs (Vasanth three for 11) on first innings lead.

At Salem: Salem DCA 181 (K. Gowtham Raj 110, Venkatesh five for 50, Shavan three for 43) & 30 for one bt Tiruchi DCA 94 (Mayilsamy four for 36, Shiva three for 12) on first innings lead.

Mukund lifts title

At Udmalpet, local boy C. Mukund Aditya of Srinivasa Vidyalaya MHSS tallied 4.5 points from five rounds to emerge the open category champion of the 15th Coimbatore district-level chess tournament for the Madha Rolling Trophy at the Sri Kannika Parameshwari HSS here recently.
