NEW DELHI: A weeklong exhibition titled "Native Landscape", dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of Russian classical artist A. Vasnetsov, opened at Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) here at Ferozeshah Road on Monday.

Organised jointly by RCSC and Roerichs' Art Club, the exhibition comprises reproductions of paintings by Vasnetsov along with paintings by contemporary Indian artist Prabal Pramanic.

At the inauguration of the exhibition, RCSC Deputy Director Sergey V. Cherkas pointed out that the joint display of works of art by the Russian classical artist and an Indian contemporary would signify the right spirit of bilateral cultural bonds between the two countries.

Describing Vasnetsov as a painter and graphic artist, Dr. Cherkas said historical paintings and town and village landscapes were the favourite topics of the Russian artist, who specialised in scenes from the medieval history of Moscow.

Prem Singh, former Principal, Government College of Arts, Chandigarh, noted that the essence of the master-craftsmanship of Vasnetsov as well as Pramanic's works would inspire and enthral art lovers for a long time to come cutting across linguistic barriers and territorial boundaries.

Thanking RCSC for displaying his paintings, Pramanic, who lives in Western Punjab, said he likes to work outdoors, sketching and painting directly on nature. A poet and writer, he has quite a few published works to his credit and has held more than 150 shows in many prestigious institutions in several countries.
