Telgi seeks more time to confess

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper case Abdul Kareem Telgi on Wednesday appealed to a city court to grant him more time to record his confessional statement. This was because his appeal before the Supreme Court, seeking permission to personally appear to make the statement, was pending.

Incidentally, this was for the seventh time that the recording of Telgi's confessional statement was being postponed, including twice on health grounds.

In his appeal to the Fourth Chief Metropolitan Magistrate through video conferencing facility from Yeravada jail in Pune, Telgi said he needed more time as his confessional statement was also not yet ready. Three volumes were ready and the other three were in the final stages of preparation, he added.

The judge, following the appeal, posted the next hearing to August 30. During the previous hearing, Telgi had insisted that he would make his confessional statement only by personally appearing before the court.

Telgi had appealed to the Supreme Court that he be allowed to personally appear in the Bangalore court to record his confession.
