KURNOOL: CPI district secretary T. Shadrak has urged the Government to take steps to protect Bharat Alloys Energy Ltd (carbide factory). Talking to reporters on Wednesday he said barely after the factory was re-opened a fortnight ago, it was shut down again on the grounds of causing excess pollution. He dismissed the charge that the factory was emitting pollutants and said it was a conspiracy by real estate developers who wanted to grab the land. They had made a false complaint to the Government though the factory complied with all pollution norms, he said. He said considering the pathetic situation of the factory, which was closed due to sharp rise in the prices of power, the Government reduced the price to Rs. 2.55 per unit. Also, the market for ferro silicon produced by the plant improved in recent weeks as the prices of raw material started looking up. Saying 1,500 families depended upon the mill, Mr. Shadrak urged the Government to protect the factory from realtors.
